Discovery Green continues its Spring 2018 Season with Harvey Heroes: Discovery Discussions presented by Southwest Airlines. The program, developed in partnership with Rice University’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research, features short testimonials by some of the Houstonians who stepped up to rescue, assist, feed, clothe and shelter those affected by Hurricane Harvey, as well as a presentation by Dr. Stephen Klineberg about Harvey’s impact on Houstonians, as reflected in the 37th Annual Kinder Houston Area Survey.

Following a performance by the Houston Gospel Choir, discussions will begin with speakers Mayor Sylvester Turner, Trae the Truth, Kirk Michaelis of El Bolillo Bakery, Jonathon Beitler, Claudia Solis and Matthew Wettergreen from the I HAVE FOOD I NEED FOOD Co-Op, Matthew Marchetti of Crowd Source Rescue, Aimee Woodall from the Black Sheep Agency, Carla Valencia de Martinez from Local Houston magazine and others. Dr. Stephen Klineberg will present findings about Harvey from the 2018 Kinder Houston Area Survey. The evening will end with a Q&A session with the audience, and a zydeco performance by Step Rideau.

As part of Discovery Green’s 10th anniversary season, Harvey Heroes: Discovery Discussions, presented by Southwest Airlines, advances the park’s mission of providing free programming that educates and engages the Houston community.
