The Houston Museum of Natural Science comes to Levy Park to offer an opportunity to learn firsthand from Museum experts. Encounter real specimens and artifacts from the museum collection in an intimate, educational atmosphere.

April 25 – Dynamic Earth: Explore the moving Earth beneath our feet as we traverse the Earth’s crust during this program with the Houston Museum of Natural Science! Volcanoes, earthquakes, and landslides, oh my! Beneath the surface of our ever-changing, dynamic planet, hidden dangers lurk deep within. In this presentation, students will examine tectonic plates and discover the chaos they can create when seismic shifts occur; investigate how the landscape transforms through weathering and erosion; and see how the layers of the Earth stack up.

May 23 – Sun & Shadows: Discover how to tell time by the sun, how bright sunlight really is, and how to concentrate solar energy with the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Watch solar cookers, panels, and ovens at work. Then, observe the sun with a projection solar telescope and filters. Measure the height of the sun to understand why we have seasons, and discover how far Earth and the other planets are from the sun as you make a solar system scale model. This interactive program can take place inside or out and gives your audience an opportunity to learn about the power of the star at the center of our solar system!

June 27 – Buzz About Bees: Join the Houston Museum of Natural Science as we explore the complex inner workings of a bee hive, and discover the incredible adaptations that make bees vital to pollination! This program investigates how the bee has adapted to become a supreme pollinator, through examination of the honey bee’s unique anatomy, intricate colony structure, and creative methods of communication. Have you ever wondered why a honeycomb has six sides? Or how many bees it takes to create one pound of honey? Get ready to discover the buzz about bees!
