Houston Author Carmen Maria Montiel Share Her Journey From Pageant Queen to Advocate for Domestic Abuse

Carmen Maria Montiel is a Houston-based author who recently released her memoir titled Stolen Identity: A Story of Love, Violence and Liberation. Carmen is a Venezuelan-born journalist, author and activist who spent the early part of her life competing in pageants across the globe. In 1984, Montiel was crowned Miss Venezuela, Miss South America and was second runner-up in Miss Universe. After moving to the United States and earning her degree in journalism, Carmen moved to Houston and began working at Telemundo.

Stolen Identity was released in July 2020 and focuses on the domestic abuse Montiel endured throughout her 25-year marriage. She takes the reader through the trials and tribulations she faced and how she overcame them.
