Houston Chamber Choir presents All God’s Creatures
The Grammy Award-winning Houston Chamber Choir presents All God’s Creatures, where the Choir looks to our friends from the animal kingdom for this heartfelt concert, which will debut the world premiere of the first installment of “Houston Seasons — Autumn” by Houston composer Daniel Knaggs and Houston poet Devondra Banks Brown.
The concert opens with a rousing spiritual arrangement of “De Animals a-Comin” performed by the Men’s Ensemble from South Main Baptist Church. Among other pieces performed will be Britten’s sublime “Rejoice in the Lamb” and Kevin Puts’ beautiful “If I Were a Swan,” paired with R. Murray Shafer’s “Medieval Bestiary,” a clever setting of 12th-century texts that attempt to draw connections between the characteristics of God and various animals, real and imagined.
All God’s Creatures will debut the world premiere of the first installment of “Houston Seasons — Autumn” by Houston composer Daniel Knaggs and Houston poet Devondra Banks Brown. The concert closes with a romp, “A Place in the Choir.” This is one of those concerts where there is truly something for everyone.
