Houston Chamber Choir presents Just Imagine!
In Just Imagine!, Houston Chamber Choir performs David Lang’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Little Match Girl Passion, a groundbreaking work praised for its unique purity and beauty inspired by Bach’s St. Matthew Passion and Hans Christian Andersen’s short story of the same name. In lighthearted contrast to Little Match Girl Passion, two other works of striking originality will be performed, “Medieval Bestiary”, by Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer and Eric Whitacre's "Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine.”
Works by Pablo Casals and Edward Elgar complete this evening of rare sights and sounds.
The professional men and women singers of the Houston Chamber Choir will be led by conductor Robert Simpson. He is founder and artistic director of the Houston Chamber Choir and Canon for Music at historic Christ Church Cathedral (Episcopal in Houston. He also serves on the faculty of the Rice University Shepherd School of Music as Lecturer of Church Music.
There is ample free parking in the church’s parking lot. The concert will be in the sanctuary. Will call opens at 6:45, with seating beginning at 7 p.m.
