The Houston Genealogical Forum Presents: The Womans Hour

The Houston Genealogical Forum presents: The Womans Hour, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, presented by Denise Bennett, Sat., Jan. 4, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. (munchies and mingling starting at 9 a.m.)

In this presentation Denise tells the story of Carrie Chapman Catt, who was one of the best-known women in the United States in the first half of the twentieth century and on all lists of famous American women. As President of the National American Womans Suffrage Association and the International Womans Suffrage Alliance, Catt led an army of voteless women in 1919 to pressure Congress to pass the constitutional amendment giving them the right to vote and convinced state legislatures to ratify it in 1920.

Denise Bennett is a lifelong volunteer, beginning at her children’s schools and later assisting adults with genealogy training and research. As a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Denise volunteers at the local and state level and serves as the Texas State Vice Chair for Commemorative Events with a focus on Womans Suffrage. She was awarded the National Society DAR 2019 First Place Commemorative Events Award for her Womans Suffrage presentation.
