Houston’s Iron Sommelier Benefiting The Periwinkle Foundation

The Periwinkle Foundation celebrates the 15th anniversary of Houston’s premier wine tasting and sommelier competition, presented by AUTOSOL, held at the Post Oak Hotel. On Thurs., Nov. 9, the city’s finest sommeliers will be put to the test for the title of Iron Sommelier.

Benefitting The Periwinkle Foundation programs for pediatric cancer patients, guests are invited to sample wines in a private setting at The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston. Competing sommeliers will select three wines which focus on a particular wine region, grape or style and personally present the wines they are pouring, while conversing with guests as they taste and compare. A panel of judges will rate the sommeliers on their wine choice, presentation, creativity, and knowledge of their wine selections. 

Guests may cast their “corks” for the People’s Choice Award. Guests will have access to an exciting wine pull, auction, raffle and children’s art sales.

Sommeliers competing in the 2023 competition include: Adele Corrigan Wade, 13 celsius wine bar; Meagan Van Til, AOC Selections; Corey Peterson, Bludorn; Daisy Durham, Doris Metropolitan; Matthew McLaughlin, Guard and Grace; Zach Newman. Georgia James; Rachel Van Til, Houston Oaks Country Club; Andres Blanco, Le Jardinier; Coleman Mason, MAD; Cody Vela, March; Joshua Ponthieux, Mastros; Chris Havens, Pappas Bros. Steakhouse; and Dennis Vawter, River Oaks Country Club.
