Lunar New Year 2023 at Asia Society Texas
Asia Society Texas celebrates the Lunar New Year with a free, all-ages festival! Ring in the Year of the Rabbit — a kind, energetic, and resilient animal representing patience and treating others with respect — with performances, art and craft activities, and food inspired by Lunar New Year traditions across Asia. The free event includes a variety of fun activities including lion dancing, interactive story times, and ticketed music and dance performances by Huaxing Arts Group.
The event is free, but RSVPs are requested. Spring Festival: Splendor of Huaxing performances at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. are ticketed: $10; AST members receive 35 percent off.

Performances:
- 12 p.m.: Lion Dance presented by Shaolin Kung Fu Academy in Houston. Taking place outdoors on AST’s Festival Lawn, this interactive performance is free and open to all guests.
- 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.: Spring Festival: Splendor of Huaxing presented by the Huaxing Arts Group. Taking place in the Brown Foundation Theatre, these performances are ticketed and will feature a variety of vibrant Chinese music and dance.
- 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.: Storybook Opera performances presented by Houston Grand Opera. Hear the story of Lunar New Year come to life in a kid-friendly opera. Taking place outdoors on AST’s Festival Lawn, these performances are free and open to all guests.

- Chinese calligraphy and Lunar New Year zodiac games
- Rabbit hat, lantern, and flip book crafts
- Photo booth with costumed Peking Opera performers
- Interactive story times –readings of the story of the Friends are Friends, Forever
