Make your own Yaupon Tea

As the weather gets colder, try warming up with something new this year – yaupon tea! Yaupon holly is the only native North American plant that contains caffeine, so it makes an excellent herbal tea. It was used by Native Americans and early colonists, especially during the American Revolution when imported tea and coffee were scarce. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how to safely identify yaupon holly, how to harvest and dry the leaves, and how to brew the tea. We’ll practice the whole process, from finding the plants outside to tasting the delicious tea! You will also get to bring home the leaves you harvested and quick-dried. Makes a unique holiday gift! Note: Ages 13 and up.
