Nature Revealed: Cabinet of Curiosities

Did you know that the Arboretum houses hundreds of scientific specimens in their Collections Department? Insects, bones, skins, teeth, seeds, feathers – from stuffed owls to snakes in jars, they have a wealth of preserved items gathered over the years. In this class, you’ll get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Arboretum's collection guided by Tiffany Ritter, the Collections Manager. You’ll learn a brief history of natural science collections, why they are still important to biologists, and how to start your own collection. Then you’ll get a chance to search the Arboretum trails for a specimen to identify, document, and add to the collection. Note: Ages 13 and up
