More About Project One Day: Giving Houston Families Hope, One Child at a Time
Imagine being a parent who can’t afford childcare yet needs to work to provide for your family. That’s the reality for many Houston families—but Project One Day (POD) is stepping in to change the story. Founded by attorney-turned-advocate, Jenny Johnson, POD provides free, Christ-centered, high-quality childcare for infants and toddlers. Parents volunteer one day a week in exchange for five days of care, creating a unique cooperative model that builds community, equips families, and ensures every child receives excellent, loving attention.

What started in a small rental home has now grown into a vibrant center at Sharpstown Baptist Church, serving 35 children across three classrooms. In just the last year, POD provided thousands of meals, diapers, and training hours—tangible help for families who need it most.

But keeping childcare free in Houston’s expensive childcare landscape isn’t easy. It costs $9,000 per child each year, and POD relies on donations and community support to continue this life-changing mission.
