Ronald McDonald House Charities' 16th Annual Run for the House
Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Greater Houston, a non-profit organization providing a home away from home for families whose children are being treated for serious illnesses or injuries in the Texas Medical Center (TMC) institutions and beyond, is calling on the community to rally together for its upcoming 16th Annual Run for the House. The event will take place Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Sam Houston Park in Downtown Houston, with 100% of funds raised directly supporting RMHC Greater Houston and the families it serves.
Building on the tradition of its 5K, this year’s USATF-certified Run for the House introduces a new 1K option, continuing to welcome participants of all ages and paces, from competitive runners to families with strollers and wheelchair participants, while uniting the community in one powerful cause. With a significant number of families at RMHC Greater Houston coping with a cancer diagnosis, the Run for the House underscores the urgent need for programs that keep families close, nourished, and supported during the toughest battles of their lives.
In 2024 alone, RMHC Greater Houston provided over 32,400 overnight stays at Holcombe House and hospital-based Family Lounges, keeping parents close to their children’s bedsides. Its JoyFULL Eats program served nearly 345,000 meals and snacks, while Family Support Services, Family Activities, and creative arts interventions offered vital emotional and social support. Beyond housing, RMHC Greater Houston continues to expand its reach with initiatives like the Hospitality Cart in Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH), with volunteers who deliver toiletries, snacks, and comfort items directly to families during long hospital stays. Together, these programs help families find stability and hope when everything else feels uncertain.
“We didn’t even know what we needed until we got to the Ronald McDonald House. Suddenly, we no longer had to worry about meals or where to sleep,” said Ashley Cantu, Family Member at the Holcombe House. “When those burdens are lifted from your shoulders, you actually have the space to breathe, focus, and time to think. At RMHC, families like ours can find that same comfort and support when they need it most.”
The Run for the House is more than a community tradition; it is a lifeline for families in crisis. Each mile completed and every dollar raised fuels RMHC Greater Houston’s mission of providing care and compassion to families with seriously ill children when it matters most. Houstonians are invited to join, give, and take part in ensuring families never face these challenges alone.
