‘Runaway Radio’ Screening at River Oaks Theatre

Back by popular demand, “Runaway Radio” has its first scheduled screening of the year at Houston’s iconic River Oaks Theatre on October 1, 2025, at 7:15 pm with the reunited Jennifer Reyna and Outlaw Dave.

Reyna now serves as the KHOU 11 Houston morning traffic anchor, and Outlaw Dave is the morning show host for Houston’s Eagle 106.9 and 107.5 KHPT/KGLK. Reyna became a fixture on Outlaw Dave’s 101 KLOL afternoon show, with both appearing in “Runaway Radio.” Michael Garfield, “The High Tech Texan,” returns as event host.

Did you notice the significance of that date? October first is 10-1, just like the magical Houston radio dial position of 101 FM! Think that was by accident? It was not.

Since our last screening at the Texas Radio Hall of Fame, “Runaway Radio” won the prestigious Texas Independent Film Award (TIFA) – for the best film made in Texas – at the Houston Film Critics Society’s 18th Annual Awards. At the River Oaks Theatre screening, a special ceremony will be held in honor of the occasion.

The 101 KLOL documentary was one of the first films to show at the legendary theater back in October 2024. Houston radio lovers in attendance had a chance to watch a legendary Houston institution at a legendary Houston institution! Dayna Steele, Lanny Griffith, Brian Shannon from Stevens & Pruett, Grego, Pat Fant, Doug Harris, Dr. Betty Halpern, Jay Jones, and director Mike McGuff all appeared on stage with Michael Garfield, the High Tech Texan, as host. VIPs in attendance included Texas State Senator Carol Alvarado and former 104.1 KRBE morning show host Maria Todd.

The rock music/radio documentary features interviews with Dusty Hill (ZZ Top), Lyle Lovett, Sammy Hagar (Solo, Van Halen, Montrose, The Circle), Melissa Etheridge (singer-songwriter), Doug Pinnick (King’s X, KXM) and Carmine Appice (Ozzy Osbourne, Vanilla Fudge, Rod Stewart, King Kobra) and the KLOL crew.
