Stages presents The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Juice boxes and public humiliation. Welcome back to sixth grade. Stages is thrilled to welcome Houston audiences to the production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee! The hit musical, conceived by Rebecca Feldman, with music and lyrics by William Finn and book by Rachel Sheinkin, is set to run Friday, October 15 through Sunday, November 14 on the Lester and Sue Smith Stage. The production will also be available for online streaming November 15 – 21.
An eclectic group of middle-schoolers are locked in an intense competition for the spelling championship of a lifetime in this Tony-Award-winning musical. As the tension mounts, each kid finds their own voice as they share funny and emotional stories about puberty, pressure, and some very adult problems. Literally join them on stage, as some audience members get to join the Bee, and get swept up in the effortless wit and humor that speaks to every former thirteen year old.
Stages will utilize Theatre Under the Stars’ Artistic Director Dan Knechtges’ original choreography from the Broadway production for the Stages staging, re-created by Greco.
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee cast includes John Ryan Del Bosque (Chip Tolentino), Amber D. Gray (Marcy Park), Steve Irish (Vice Principal Panch), Mark Ivy (William Barfee), Courtney Markowitz (Rona Lisa Perretti), Camryn Nunley (Mitch Mahoney), Reghan Scott (Logianne Schwartz and Grubenniere), Christopher Scurlock (Leaf Coneybear), and Anna María (Olive Ostrovsky).
The creative team includes Director and Choreographer Mitchell Greco, Original Choreography Dan Knechtges, Music Director Steven Jones, Sound Designer Sean Ramos, Properties Manager Jodi Bobrovsky, Lighting Designer Frank Vela, Scenic Designer Stefan Azizi, Costume Designer Kristie Chiyere Osi, and Production Stage Manager Trinity Nobles.
