I’ve always been fascinated with taking photos, but didn’t figure out that it was my passion until my sophomore year of high school. Prior to my sophomore year, I never really thought about taking photography seriously. I took photos more as something to do when I’m bored. This all changed when, one day, in my beginning photography class my instructor was handing out applications to her photojournalism class for the next school year. In this class, students photograph everything for the yearbook.
I’m so glad that my teacher convinced me to take this class because after being in this class, it has changed my life. Prior to this class, I had always been a very quiet person who only talks when asked to and decides to restrain from sharing my opinions when in a class discussion. But junior year, when I started photojournalism, I was so excited, and it became one of my favorite classes and the highlight of my school day every day.
This class became my favorite because of its neutral atmosphere, and the teacher is also very knowledgeable and has helped me become a better photographer, both with photojournalism and my personal photography. This class also helped me finally open up and not be scared of what others think. I feel that when I am in this class I can be myself and really open up to letting my creativity run wild.
Being part of this class has made my high school experience so much more enjoyable, and has given me something to look forward to every day when I wake up to go to school. I feel that this is my true calling and that I would possibly wish to pursue studying photojournalism in my future.
