Seniors Ashley Doctor and Emma Danziger show their “I Voted” sticker after voting for the very first time.
As the November 2016 presidential election rolls around, some seniors at The Emery/Weiner School get the chance to vote for the very first time. This is a very exciting time for a big group of 12th graders.
This year, they will go as a group with members of the faculty to the grocery store, Fiesta, to cast their vote. To be able to do this your last year of high school is very rewarding for the millennials of our time. We had a meeting in September with our grade to fill out the voter registration form so they will be good to go during the height of voting season.
Sadly enough, I will not be 18 in time to vote for this election, but I am very proud that some people in my age group will get to vote. Although this election season has been one for the books, many students feel this is a good way to start their voting right as an adult in the United States.
Senior Benjamin Cohen, who’s 18, said, “It was really cool to go with other seniors during the school day and participate in early voting since we are in a presidential election year. Being able to share this experience with my peers will be something I will remember forever.” This is such a great thing for Emery to do, because it shows the willingness to make us act as a group rather than an individual.
