School is just around the corner (or has already started at some schools) and for a quarter of the population of students, this is going to be the most exciting, nerve-wracking, but most impactful school year. Senior year, though memorable, is also a time full of college anxiety. Some Buzz residents who are rising  seniors have shared their thoughts on the nerves and excitement of senior year, and some graduates have given advice on what to expect going into this last year of high school.

Patsy Serna Cohen, rising senior at The Tenney School, says, “I’m really excited for it because this is the first step to a new chapter in our lives. It’s also just really surreal because I remember starting my freshman year 3 years ago and now I am starting my senior year.”

Aaron Aboulafia, rising senior at the Bellaire High School, says, “For me, the scariest part about the college application process is the quality of my essays. The limit on the amount of words and in one essay scares me because I want to write more than the limit.”

Ben Cohen, rising freshman at the University of Texas at Austin, and graduate of The Emery/Weiner School, says, “For the application process, I found it helpful to set somewhat of a timeline so that I didn't fall behind with writing my essays. Another piece of advice is to have a variety of schools that you apply, but make sure that you'd be happy attending any of the schools that you apply to.”

Though many students get really involved in the application process, it is also important to remember to enjoy senior year.

Maddy Payne, rising junior at Oklahoma University, and Houston Christian High School graduate, says, “You still have to study and work hard, but you also only have one year left with friends you’ve spent the last four years with so make the most of it. Graduating high school is really exciting but it’s only going to happen once so enjoy yourself and the time you have.”

Even when times get stressful, it is important for the Class of 2018 to take a step back and remember to have fun this last round of high school!
