Roger Waters

October is always a busy month. Students are getting into the swing of things at school, Halloween is around the corner, and winter break plans are coming together quickly. As Houston starts to cool down (maybe? not yet? oh...), treat yourself to one of the amazing shows we have in Houston this month. In my opinion, there's nothing better than the feeling of leaving a concert and being greeted by the cool fall air as you think about what you just heard and saw. Don't know what I'm talking about? Maybe you should try it!

Oct. 1: Father John Misty @ White Oak Music Hall

Father John Misty is really "in" right now, especially among the younger generation. He is known for his folk/indie rock sound.

Oct. 2: Gov't Mule @ House of Blues

Gov't Mule is a Southern blues/rock band that includes former Allman Brothers Band member Warren Haynes. If you like jam bands or musicians that will simply play guitar for hours on stage without even having a clear setlist, this show is for you.

Oct. 2: LEON @ House of Blues

LEON is a favorite artist of mine. Listen to the song "Tired of Talking," which I had on repeat on my phone for about a month. She is cool, young and fresh.

Oct. 4: Boyce Avenue @ House of Blues

Boyce Avenue is known for his soulful acoustic covers of popular songs. His voice is absolutely beautiful.

Oct. 5: Run the Jewels @ Revention Music Center

Run the Jewels (RTJ) consists of two hip-hop artists, known for songs like "Legend Has It" and "Talk to Me."

Oct. 5: Lynyrd Skynyrd @ Smart Financial Centre

A classic American band playing classic Southern rock. If you don't know who this is, play "Sweet Home Alabama." Now you know.

Oct. 6: Tim McGraw and Faith Hill @ Toyota Center

This country couple always put on a great show, especially when they're together. They are country icons.

Oct. 6: Jimmie Vaughan & the Tilt-A-Whirl Band @ The Heights Theatre

I'm such a sucker for live classic rock/blues. Jimmie Vaughan is the brother of the late guitar legend Stevie Ray Vaughan, who is one of my favorite guitar players of all time. His brother, who I have seen live, is also great, and definitely worth seeing if you're interested. This is a show that won't be highly publicized but I highly recommend.

Oct. 6: Rick Springfield @ Smart Financial Centre

"Jessie's Girl!" Enough said.

Oct. 10: Foster the People @ House of Blues

You probably know them from their hit "Pumped Up Kicks." You may not know any other songs from them, but FTP is a cool, young rock/pop band.

Oct. 13: Tove Lo @ House of Blues

Passing through Texas for ACL, Tove Lo is making a pit stop in Houston. Known for putting on a high energy live show, she is popular for hits like "Not On Drugs" and "Talking Body." If you aren't able to see her at ACL, this is a good time to do it.

Oct. 17: The Weeknd @ Toyota Center

This may be one of the most anticipated concerts of the month. Ever since The Weeknd shot to stardom a few years ago, artists have had trouble knocking him off his pedestal. With multiple chart toppers ("Starboy," "Can't Feel My Face," "The Hills," "Earned It"), this is a great concert to go to, even just for bragging rights.

Oct. 18: Macklemore @ House of Blues

It's been a while since Macklemore was on the scene, but with new music and fatherhood under his belt, maybe we'll see a new type of performer emerge.

Oct. 19: Kid Cudi @ Revention Music Center

Kid Cudi is known best for his older hit "Pursuit of Happiness," which continues to be popular today.

Oct. 24: Bruno Mars @ Toyota Center

As all my friends tell me, Bruno Mars is an "amazing performer with the voice of an angel." Although I can't say for myself, they've convinced me that this is a concert you CAN'T. MISS.

Oct. 24: Zedd @ Revention Music Center

Zedd is a DJ and producer popular for songs "Clarity," "I Want You to Know," and "Stay the Night."

Oct. 25: Charli XCX and Halsey @ Toyota Center

Halsey is the new "it" girl of the moment, having become mainstream after helping the Chainsmokers out with "Closer." Charli XCX was the highest on my list to see at Free Press before her show was cancelled due to rain. Overall, this should be a fun, girl power show.

Oct. 26: Post Malone @ House of Blues

Post Malone is the rapper who sings "Congratulations" and "White Iverson."

Oct. 27: Cowboy Mouth @ Fitzgerald's

One of my all-time favorite bands! Cowboy Mouth puts on the most fun concert I've ever been to BY FAR. They will have you jumping, screaming, and laughing all throughout the show, even if you don't know any of the songs.
