Over the rain boots
The water was high Monday but not in her house, said Barbara Hammer as she camped with neighbors on much higher ground. By the time she got in her home, the water was above her rain boots. Her son Dan Hammer, who had been rescuing in a friend’s boat, came to her aid. She left Hollow Drive with two neighbors and a bird in a fishing boat. Once the water receded, her daughter LaRetta Bertram, grandson Ben Bertram and nephew Michael Hammer, with his front loader and trailer, got all of the furniture out in one day. Stratford High School boys assisted in many ways too.
