Live Music in Houston This September
First, let’s all let out a collective sigh (maybe shed a tear or two..); summer is finally over. That doesn’t mean we can’t pretend like it isn’t by going to a fun concert or two! Houston has some amazing shows (did somebody say BEYONCE??) this month, so there’s no excuse to miss out.
Sept. 1: Def Leppard and Journey @ Toyota Center
Two great ’80s bands; one stage! They play again on the 3rd, so you have two options.
Sept. 6: Riff Raff @ Shiner Park
Riff Raff is a rapper originally from Houston. He has an album coming out sometime this fall, so see him before prices go up! This show is actually in College Station, so if you’re an Aggie, definitely be sure to check this out!
Sept. 7: Luke Bryan @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell
Honestly, if you’re from Houston and you haven’t seen Luke Bryan in concert yet, I am shocked. It seems like he is always here, between the Rodeo and touring. Nevertheless, he puts on a fun show and is the perfect performer for Cynthia Woods.
Sept. 10: Miguel @ Revention Music Center
Miguel has been credited with fusing lots of different types of music, including R&B, funk, hip hop, electronic, and more. Vocally, he has been compared to Prince.
Sept. 12: Rise Against @ Revention Music Center
Rise Against is a well-known punk rock band. One of their top hits is from 2008, called Savior.
Sept. 15 & 16: Beyoncé and Jay-Z @ NRG Park
Honestly, the list could just stop here. Or this one event could have been the entire list. Beyoncé is back in her hometown y’all!! I saw Beyoncé the last time she was in Houston, and she (as always) put on an amazing show. This is the event of the month.
Sept. 21: Dierks Bentley @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
For all my country fans out there, this one’s for you! Another fun country show this September at Cynthia Woods (in case you are tired of seeing Luke Bryan).
Sept. 21: Gov’t Mule @ White Oak Music Hall Downstairs
Gov’t Mule describes themselves as a “Southern rock jam band,” and I would wholeheartedly agree with that description, having seen them live myself. If you like classic rock and appreciate the musicality behind it (not just the big hair or other stereotypes), you will appreciate this band. Founding member Warren Haynes was the guitarist for the Allman Brothers Band.
Sept. 21: Uncle Kracker @ Wildcatter Saloon
This is a bit of a random show, but you’ll remember Uncle Kracker from his hits “Smile” and “Follow Me.”
Sept. 22: Tim Allen @ Smart Financial Centre
A comedic legend, Tim Allen has been doing stand-up comedy for 30 years and appeared in award-winning TV show Home Improvement. There is an 18 and up policy.
Sept. 22: Childish Gambino @ Toyota Center
Childish Gambino, otherwise known as Donald Glover, is an extremely talented musician and actor, appearing on shows Atlanta and Community. One of his most recently releases, “This is America,” caused some controversy with the release of the accompanying music video. His hit that you will definitely know is “Redbone.”
Sept. 24: Troye Sivan @ Revention Music Center
Troye Sivan’s hit that you might know is “YOUTH.” Recently, he was brought out as a special guest on Taylor Swift’s tour.
Sept. 28: 5 Seconds of Summer
5SOS, as the band is affectionately known, is making its comeback. Having once toured with One Direction, the band skyrocketed to fame, but took some time out of the spotlight for a while. They are back, having released popular hits this summer, including “Youngblood.”
Sept. 28: Ozzy Osbourne @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
“I didn’t know he was still performing!” you might say. I agree, but here we are! “Crazy Train” singer Ozzy will be performing live at Cynthia Woods for his farewell tour.
Sept. 29: Taylor Swift @ NRG Park
Okay, I might’ve spoken too soon. THIS might be the best concert this month. How about a tie; Beyonce and Taylor Swift? Both put on extremely energetic and visual shows. Swift will feature Camila Cabello and Charli XCX.
Sept. 29: Drake and Migos @ Toyota Center
Not to be outdone, Houston is also bringing Drake and Migos this September! Don’t worry, though, if you can’t make the 29th. Drake and Migos will also be at Toyota on Sept. 30 and Oct. 2.
Sept. 30: Florence and the Machine @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
Florence and the Machine are best known for “Dog Days Are Over,” but they are so much more than that. Lead singer Florence Welch has an AMAZING voice that I personally would really like to hear live.
