Duchesne Celebrates Unity Day

We all have certain goals we try to live by. At Duchesne, we have five Sacred Heart Goals that we strive to meet both in and out of school, so what better way to start the school year than with Goal 4: the building of community? On Aug. 31, we celebrated the tradition of Unity Day: a day dedicated to bonding, building community, and having fun. Instead of classes, Upper School students participated in group activities and games. Each grade worked as a team, and together we created a community.     

The day started with a Mass, followed by a lip sync contest that ended in a lip sync battle between the sophomores and seniors. Then, there was a rather intense campus-wide hide-and-seek game that involved the teachers hiding and their students seeking. One teacher took the game to another level by wearing a camouflage suit and blending into the bushes. The games ended with a giant dodgeball tournament between the grades. Duchesne Unity Day 2018 concluded with the Upper School students and faculty joining together for a prayer service and the presentation of the class mottos.

First-time participant Olivia Watson said, “It was cool how everything in Unity Day was organized and how the freshmen could come together and bond through the activities that were planned.” 

Overall, the day was a success, and we left school feeling closer to our Duchesne family.
