Funding health education
The Women’s Fund for Health Education and Resiliency was celebrated virtually by nearly 250 supporters at its 10th annual Rockin’ Resiliency Luncheon. Guests danced from home along with Houston’s Vincent Powell, Season 12 finalist of American Idol. Emma Fulton, Emilia Haymon and Bridget Gray joined Powell to perform “Count on Me.” Luncheon chairs were Christine and Steve Johnson, and emcee was KTRK-ABC 13’s Gina Gaston Elie. The event raised close to $180,000. Edna Meyer-Nelson was the recipient of the Sue Trammel Whitfield Award for Resiliency, and The John P. McGovern Foundation Champion in Women's Health and Wellness Award went to Dr. Kathleen Schmeler. HEB’s Scott McClelland discussed the importance of resilience with luncheon co-chair Steve Johnson of the Walton and Johnson Syndicated Radio Show. Houston City Council Member Sallie Alcorn arrived with a proclamation from Mayor Sylvester Turner. An hour before the event, The Women’s Fund hosted over 90 participants for an educational panel led by Drs. Wanda Mott and Frene’ Lacour-Chestnut, Denise Bates, Chau Nguyen and Centrell Reed.
