Father-son tournament champ
Nickel Evans (pictured), 12, tosses the ball high above his head for a serve on the court at River Oaks Country Club (ROCC). The Joy School sixth-grader has played tennis for many years, beginning around age 2. He and his father, Jon, who is also an avid player, recently won the ROCC father-son tournament. Nickel is a singles player, and he spends many hours practicing with coaches for future matches and tournaments. Looking to the future, Nickel hopes to play in high school and also in college. His ultimate goal is to be just like his idol, Roger Federer.
