Hispanic Heritage Fiesta
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and the brand new Barbara Bush Literacy Plaza at the Downtown Central Library. Explore Hispanic culture through the generations as we enjoy dance performances, fun crafts and trace ancient cultural traditions. Discover this rich heritage with an array of games, Latin dance classes, bilingual storytimes and more!
Activities on the Barbara Bush Literacy Plaza will include:
- DJ Caribbeats
- Cultural performances and music representing Houston’s Hispanic Heritage by Danza Chikawa and HSPVA Mariachi Los Pasajeros
- Latin dances and dance classes by Proyección Latina
- Bilingual puppet and magic shows by Mr. Leo Puppet Show & Entertainment and HPL CET
- Traditional family games and Skull face painting by Young Audiences of Houston
- Cooking demo and conversation about the ancient history of Texas Mexican cuisine by Adan Medrano, chef, food writer and filmmaker
- Book giveaway of Central American authors by The Central American Collective
- LatinX food by Balderas Tamale Factory and Tuttopane
Registration is required. There are 255 seats available. This program is free and open to the public.
