Students spreading cheer
Students involved in the Harris Health Junior Volunteer program decided to “adopt” different units of the hospital. Groups of students created handcrafted items such as thank you cards and encouragement signs as well as motivational songs and dances for healthcare workers. Ayushi Mohanty, a junior at Carnegie Vanguard High School, is the Adopt-a-Unit team leader for the surgical oncology unit at Ben Taub Hospital. Pictured is the team delivering items to doctors and nurses, including (bottom row, on left) Ayushi; (bottom row, on right) Mallika Gyawali, a student at Shadow Creek High School; (middle, center) Jileane Tuppil, a student at Shadow Creek; (top row, on left) Fayobami Taiwo, a student at DeBakey High School; and (top row, on right) Humza Hanif, a student at Carnegie. Additionally, junior volunteers made happy birthday and get well soon cards along with hand-sewn blankets for cancer patients.
