Making a healthy difference
Barbara Van Postman, Dr. Sippi Khurana, Leila Perrin, and Leisa Holland-Nelson Bowman (pictured, from left) enjoyed the Making a Difference luncheon benefiting El Centro de Corazon at the Hotel ZaZa-Museum District. Event chairs Dr. Kelli Cohen Fein and Van Postman, and honorary chairs Bowman and Perrin, helped raise more than $120,000 for medically underserved families in Houston’s East End community. This year’s event celebrates the 29th year of operations for El Centro where more than 12,000 patients are seen annually. Community leader and honoree Dr. Khurana spoke to the crowd in both Spanish and English, in a tribute to the many Spanish-speaking patients the center serves. Cyndy Garza Roberts served as emcee and interviewed special guests Dr. Bob Sanborn, president and chief executive officer, Children at Risk, and Christy Serrano, program officer, Episcopal Health Foundation, about telemedicine in underserved communities and the need to start preventive healthcare as early as possible.
