Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Welcome to March! Giddy up for rodeo season, women's history month, and more with these local happenings.
2024 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
It’s the first weekend of rodeo season! The iconic RodeoHouston features all the classic events: roping, bareback riding, barrel racing, bull riding, and so much more. Each rodeo is followed by a concert – 50 Cent will take the stage tonight for Black Heritage Day; Saturday features a performance by HARDY, and Sunday is Ivan Cornejo. Tickets for the Rodeo and Concert start at $23. Tickets to the grounds (including the carnival, livestock shows, horse shows, and shopping) are $20 for adults and $10 for children (ages 3-12).
Party at the Pavilion with The Spazmatics
Head to Bellaire Town Square tonight at 6:15 p.m. for a free community concert from ‘80s tribute band The Spazmatics! This event is free but tickets are required. There will be food trucks along with beer and wine from The ‘401 Table and Tap.
Bellaire Little League Opening Day 2024
Bellaire Little League’s Opening Day is this Saturday! Festivities begin at 9 a.m. at Weston Field, with an opening ceremony with the BHS Cheerleaders & Baseball team, an introduction of BLL teams, Boy Scouts Flag Ceremony, and special guest Julia Morales. The free celebration will continue until 3 p.m. with an all-day family block party, featuring games, face painting, food trucks, a trackless train, and more.
Chalk on the Block
Visit Bagby Park in Midtown this Saturday and watch interactive 3D sidewalk chalk art come to life before your eyes. This free event lasts from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and this month’s theme is “Rodeo & Wild West,” with music by DJ Rosez.
Texas Independence Day Celebration
George Ranch Historical Park celebrates Texas Independence Day this Saturday, from noon – 5 p.m. Activities will include Camp Life demonstrations, cooking demonstrations, firearms and canon demonstrations, and a reading of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Tickets are $11 for children ages 4-12, $16 for adults, and $13 for seniors (ages 65+); ages 3 and under are free.
Girls on the Green: A Women’s History Month Celebration
This Saturday, celebrate the start of Women’s History Month at Discovery Green’s “Girls on the Green!” Activities will be held from 4-9 p.m., and include women-led musical entertainment, a market full of women-owned businesses and artists, a Dragon Boat demonstration from survivors of breast cancer and more. A Bank of America Screen on the Green viewing of the movie Barbie will begin at 7 p.m.
Hearts in the Garden
Enjoy tea and coffee as you stroll through the Bayou Bend estate this Saturday at Hearts in the Garden. Discover the connection of affection and friendship in early America through live music, poetry readings, a flower-arranging demonstration, and Victorian cut-paper craft-making. The event lasts from 4-7 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for MFAH members.
Bank of America’s Screen on the Green
Enjoy a free showing of Barbie under the stars this Saturday at Discovery Green. The event starts at 7 p.m.; arrive early for games and activities. Guests are welcome to bring blankets, camping chairs and snacks. Please leave alcohol and glass containers at home. Food, beer and wine are available for purchase.
Houston Dynamo FC vs. New York Red Bulls
Cheer on the Houston Dynamo as they play against the New York Bulls at Shell Energy Stadium this Saturday. The game starts at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are available starting at $15.
Houston Arboretum's Annual Pup Crawl & Pet Expo
The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center invites all interested humans to bring their furry friends to their annual “Pup Crawl and Pet Expo” on Sunday from 3-6 p.m. After four Saint Arnold beer stops along the Arboretum trails, guests receive a commemorative glass. They can also shop at the Pet Expo, which will have vendors offering human and pet accessories and apparel, custom pet illustrations, and more. Tickets are $35 for ages 21 and up; free for those under age 20. Proceeds support the Houston Arboretum and BARC animal shelter and adoption center. The Arboretum asks that all pets be leashed during the event.
