West University's Fourth of July Parade

This past Fourth of July weekend, I had the great pleasure of joining West University in celebrating Independence Day. Families and friends lined up to participate in the annual bike parade as others looked on from the sidewalk. It was great seeing the whole community come together to recognize our country’s independence. At the conclusion of the parade, there was a pool party at Colonial Park. Food was provided by Prince’s Hamburgers with proceeds benefitting the West University Rotary Club.

I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of red, white, and blue that I saw biking along in the parade. With each passing minute, it seemed the outfits worn by the cyclists became more over-the-top and impressive! Some fathers even chose to show their patriotism by participating in the annual “Dad’s Belly Flop” contest. This year’s winner was Craig Friou, who performed a flop that everyone enjoyed. It was clear to me that the families in this parade and its events enjoy showing their pride for their country.

The amount of passion the families of West University have for each other and their country is truly heart-warming. They demonstrated how a neighborhood can come together and have a great time. I look forward to attending next year’s parade and patriotic festivities.
