Lanier Middle School Sinfonia, the school’s top string orchestra, competed at the district UIL competition at Elsik High School. Participating were bass musicians Drew Pruitt, Ewan Curtis (pictured) and Grant Phillips, who all auditioned for and made the prestigious Region Orchestra this year. Ewan also plays in the jazz band at Lanier. Sinfonia’s conductor is teacher Aleta Cole. The orchestra performed three musical pieces, and musicians also were tested in sight reading. Sinfonia received all ‘1s’ from the judges in both events, the top score a varsity team can attain.
