Junior Andie Chilson sports her silver Sacred Heart Ring just after the ceremony.
On April 21, 2015 the class of 2016 celebrated their transition into a role of leadership within the Duchesne community.
The Junior Ring blessing is a Sacred Heart tradition practiced at schools across the globe as rising seniors are inducted into the network of the Sacred Heart sisterhood and the graduating class is prepared for the next chapter in their lives as sisters of the Sacred Heart.
The celebration opened with the reading of a passage selected by the junior class that they felt captured the essence of the grade’s beliefs and values.
Ensuing the blessing of the rings, each junior came up with their selected senior to receive their ring. Each junior’s ring was placed on their finger with the emblem of the Sacred Heart facing inwards, so as to recognize that although they have been initiated into the sisterhood, they are still a part of the home of the Sacred Heart. Each junior was then to remove their senior’s ring and place it on their finger with the heart of Mary and Jesus facing outwards to symbolize their readiness to face the world with the knowledge that they are always in the presence of the Sacred Heart.
Duchesne’s picturesque chapel was filled with loved ones and friends of the celebrants, all there to show their love and support of this next phase in their lives.
The ceremony was followed by a reception with complimentary goûter (“snacks” in French) for the students and their guests.
The Junior Ring celebration serves to remind each student of the Sacred Heart that wherever life may take you, you are forever part of an inimitable sisterhood and bond that should provide you with a sense of solace and unity in all that you do.
