Meatball ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1 pound ground pork
¼ cup onion, minced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1½ Tablespoons parsley, chopped
1 cup Italian breadcrumbs
2 eggs
Salt and pepper
Sauce ingredients:
2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
½ cup diced onion
1 Tablespoon garlic paste
1 Tablespoon Italian seasoning
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Salt and pepper to taste
Basil for serving, optional
Parmesan cheese for serving, optional
Add beef, pork, onion, garlic, parsley, breadcrumbs and eggs to a large bowl. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix with your hands until combined. Make 2-inch meatballs. (I made 22 meatballs. These meatballs freeze great raw.) Lightly grease a baking sheet. Broil meatballs on high until browned on each side, about 4-5 minutes on each side. Add meatballs to slow cooker. In a bowl, combine tomato sauce and paste, onion, garlic paste and all seasonings. Mix and pour over meatballs. Cook on low for 4 hours.
