These citrus-soaked strawberries add a fresh finish to many dishes (cake, ice cream, pancakes). The strawberries are also delicious topped with an almond-flavored whipped cream.
Juice of ½ orange
Juice of ½ small grapefruit
Juice of ½ lime
⅛ teaspoon saffron
¼ cup chopped fresh mint or basil
2 pints strawberries, rinsed, tops removed and halved
This recipe requires advance preparation. Mix the juices together in a small bowl and add the saffron. Add the mint or basil, and stir. Place the strawberries in a large bowl, pour the juice mixture over the berries, cover and refrigerate for several hours. Serves 8.
