Star Pizza
Since 1976, Star Pizza has been a Houston favorite, known for deep-dish pie, vegetarian toppings and whole-wheat crust. I have enjoyed both the original Norfolk and Washington Avenue locations. Proclaiming to be the first pizza parlor to introduce Houstonians to the vegetarian pizza, they have maintained a philosophy of using high-quality ingredients. When I order my jalapeño pizza, I am given the option of either fresh or pickled jalapeños. The Norfolk location is a quaint old house with many nooks, while the Washington Avenue location has a more traditional restaurant design. Italian-inspired sandwiches, pasta salad, Greek salad and a Caprese salad with sliced Roma tomatoes are great starters. If you are not in the mood for pizza, there are classic Italian dishes like lasagna and pasta primavera.
