For William Martin, a rising senior at Marine Military Academy (MMA) in Harlingen, Independence Day is much more than hot dogs and fireworks. Every day at the military boarding school for boys he gets to see a historic treasure and a symbol of American pride from World War II: the Iwo Jima Monument. This South Texas monument and the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, Va., have symbolized American honor for 70 years.
