Senior Advice to Incoming Freshmen

Senior Arjun Das thinks about the things he wishes he had known as a freshman as he looks at a “Bellaire High School Survival Guide.”

The start to a new school year means new goals and new bright and shining faces at Bellaire High School. Every senior was once a freshman, so now it’s our turn to contribute some advice we wish we had known going into our first, nerve-wracking year of high school.

1. "Make sure to take health and speech freshman year because as the four years progress, you will want to take other classes.  You don't want to be stuck taking health and speech your senior year." -Clara VanLandingham

2. "Definitely focus on your studies. The first year of high school is exciting but remember that your education comes first. Freshman year will come back to haunt you if you sidetrack." -Axel Perez

3. "Try to come to all the school events to boost up school spirit and meet new people." -Megan Wu

4. "Start planning out your goals for grades, but don't stress about college because it's only your freshman year. Get involved in activities outside of school." -Richard Goldman

5. "The next four years will go by very quickly so make the most of them." -Arjun Das

6. “Focus on classes and get involved in activities. Try to obtain a few leadership roles but don’t overwhelm yourself. Stick to 2-3 clubs and study hard, but definitely make room for your social life!” -Madison McCorquodale

7. “You have time to go to your locker… don’t carry everything and don’t be the kid that runs to class.” -Alexandra Kainer

8. “Stay calm. The teachers understand that you have a lot on your plate and will help you improve your organization skills to become a top notch student! Focus on yourself and don’t get caught up in the social scenes, or at least figure out a happy medium.” -Jami Eckols-Leonard

9. “Bring a jacket even if it's not cold outside because so many of the rooms are freezing.” -Sydney Williams

10. “Use the restroom right before you leave for school to avoid the school bathrooms. And don’t stress about homework.” -Jared Blackmon
