Bellaire High School recently hosted their 26th annual Diwali Festival; Diwali is the New Year for the Hindu culture. The festival was full of celebrations, from dancing and singing to colorful lights. The event took about a month to organize and plan and turned out phenomenally.
The festival started with both the United States’ and Indian National Anthems. After this, the program got straight to the festivities
“I find these performances very inspirational in letting my peers express who they really are,” says freshman Krisha Modi, who, as part of the Hindi department, came to take part in the celebrations.
Indian rapper, Yash P, joined the festivities to share his music with us.
In addition to many performances by Bellaire students, we also had the privilege to listen to Indian Rapper Yash P and watch Cinco Ranch’s Cinco Desi Dance Team, as they came out to add to the fun.
There were a few technical difficulties, but the emcees pulled it through. Despite the problems, all the groups were able to go on, including dance group Gulab Jammin.
The night was full of music and celebrations as the Hindi department honored Mr. Arun Prakash, who retired this past year, and Ms. Eesha Gulati, who has filled his position. The night would not have been possible without the help and effort of all of the students, who organized and hosted the entire event.
