OLCAs construction is underway on the new Rummel Creek Elementary, the school’s PTA has been busy planning for the new campus’ Outdoor Learning Center. The new OLC will include seven dedicated grade-level garden beds, plus a colorful butterfly habitat. The OLC will help students learn about ecosystems and plant life indigenous to Texas. In addition to the raised garden beds (which will be constructed of materials that match the exterior of the new building), the OLC will include water cisterns to capture rainwater and a pocket prairie featuring native Texas plant life. The project is being headed up by RCE parents Carrie Stallwitz and Ann-Margaret H. Dudley. Assisting Carrie and Ann-Margaret are two master gardeners, Mark Ramey (father to RCE first-grade teacher Meredith Ramey and father-in-law to RCE fourth-grade teacher Rebecca Ramey) and Gloria Scheel (grandmother of RCE students Jake and John Hearne). Pictured (from left) are Dudley, Karen Ross (PTA president), Nancy Harn (principal), Stallwitz and Heather Sheffield (first vice president, PTA).
