Connor Marshall, a sixth grader at Pershing Middle School, likes art and is especially passionate about creating prostheses for theater and film.
I first started drawing and painting when I was 4. When I got older, I enrolled in the Glassell School of Art for drawing and painting classes. Time went on, and I got drawn into anime when I was about 10. I admit that I was very addicted to anime art. I would draw from the time I woke up to the time I went to bed.
When I was 11, I started watching Face Off, which is a television program that allows contestants to create creatures out of clay. They would create a silicone or latex mask out of the sculpture. Famous judges such as makeup artist Ve Neill critique your masterpiece. I didn’t know how to exactly use a silicone chemical, so I started with 3rd Degree. It is a modeling silicone compound that allows you to create designs on your skin. Chemicals are very expensive, so I had to save money.
I plan in the future to go to the Cinema Makeup School in Hollywood or the Hex Makeup School in Houston to learn how to use the model process and create latex masks. I am very excited because I feel like I can create something amazing for movies and plays. In the future I want to accomplish my dreams and become a special-effects makeup artist and work in the film, play and TV industry.
Recently, I attended a Special Effects Workshop at Bayou City Theatrics. I do other arts as well. In theater, I starred as Charlie Brown in Charlie Brown’s Christmas. Also, I’m in choir at my school. On the side, I run a small dog-walking service in the Bellaire area. I never thought I could accomplish what I’m doing now. I hope to carry on and succeed in the fine arts.
