That’s a wrap
The Memorial High School Theatre Arts Department just wrapped a seven-show performance of the play The Drowsy Chaperone. In the play, an antisocial musical-theater fanatic (the man in the chair) tries to cheer himself up by listening to a recording of a fictional 1928 hit musical comedy. As he listens, the show comes alive in his dingy apartment. Memorial resident and MHS junior Clay Wells enjoyed playing the man in the chair because “he’s a very endearing character and very easy to get into because he is so similar to me.” In the show-within-a-show, a Broadway star plans to give up her successful career to marry a tycoon. Actors in the show included Regan Hicks as the drowsy chaperone, Meredith Rauch as the bride, Patrick Greer as the groom, Denver Fesmire as the Latin lothario Aldolpho, David O’Bar as the producer, and Chandler Dunham as Kitty, the ingénue. Pictured (from left) are Wells, playing the man in the chair, and Ty Sponsel, playing the superintendent.
