Bellaire United Methodist Church welcomed over 300 humans, dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, reptiles and fish to the Blessing of the Animals. Dogs said hi to each other with a sniff as owners visited, had their photos taken with their pet, and received a blessing from pastors Jim Flagg, Diane McGehee and Jim Love. Attendees were invited to visit with a pet-care professionals, including veterinarian Garnett Von Eiff of Southwest Animal Clinic, dog trainer Melanie Lynn of Rover Oaks Pet Resort, Connie Richards and the Faithful Paws pet-therapy group, Carol Rone of Southeastern Guide Dogs, and the pet-nutrition experts from Natural Pawz stores. The traditional celebration honors St. Francis of Assisi, who was declared Patron Saint of the Ecology because of his special devotion to the animal kingdom. Pictured (from left) are Pastor Jim Flagg and Mary Jane Hancock, with Cha Cha Cha.
