At The Briarwood School, the day of prom is shared with another very important senior event, Senior Breakfast. After eating breakfast with family and friends, each senior takes center stage and delivers a speech in which they thank teachers, friends, and family for the love and support they’ve received over the past four years of high school.
“Thank you for being my biggest fan” and “Thanks for the great memories” were some of the sentiments shared. Seniors composed and worked on the respective speeches in their English class and put more effort into perfecting those comments at home. On this Senior Breakfast Day in April, emotions ran high and parents wept when they heard their kids - now young adults - give these heartwarming speeches.
Some of the seniors also shed a few tears as they reminisced about the people who helped them reach this point. Seniors looked around the auditorium, realizing their days at Briarwood are very much numbered; some even counted the days, minutes, and seconds until graduation. All the seniors agreed that the date of graduation felt much closer at the end of Senior Breakfast than it had earlier that morning.
The fact that the class of 2015 would soon be graduating became much more clear when everyone put on a cap and gown to take a group photo together as the Briarwood’s Class of 2015. Waiting for the flash of the camera, we wondered where we would all be 10 years from now.
