Supporters of the nonprofit organization BEAR (Be A Resource for CPS Kids) gathered at River Oaks Country Club for a luncheon. They included (pictured, from left) BEAR director Bernadette Cashin, co-chair Katy Burton, Jim “Mattress Mack” MacIngvale, co-chair Mary Jane Gallagher and emcee Lisa Malosky. MacIngvale, owner of Gallery Furniture for 33 years, shared his story of coming to Texas with $5,000 and a pickup truck. BEAR was founded in 1997 by a group of concerned people, with a budget of $7,000. Now the budget has grown to more than $1.5 million. The mission of BEAR is to offer hope and help for abused and neglected children in Harris County and support of the caseworkers who protect them. For information, contact Cashin at [email protected].
