The Transfer Student Experience at St. Agnes Academy
Most of us experience the confusion of adjusting to a new environment on the first day of high school our freshman year, but something most of us never think about is what it would be like to change schools midway through our high school career. So I sat down with new transfer student Sofia Botti to get the inside story on what it’s really like to be a transfer student.
Catherine: Were you nervous about being a transfer student? And if so, what were you the most nervous about?
Sofia: Honestly, no, I wasn't. I like new situations and I was looking forward to a new environment. It did help that I am acquaintances with a handful of people here at St. Agnes and I made a good friend in a fellow eleventh grader over the past year. She's been lovely and introduced me to friendly people like yourself. It has been nice to see friendly faces from day one.
Catherine: How do you feel about St. Agnes right now, after being in school for several weeks?
Sofia: I am so happy to be here. I have a great group of instructors; they're all here to see us students do well. It's an uplifting environment. I am also participating in chorus . . . love it!
Catherine: What do you feel is the biggest difference between your old school and St. Agnes?
Sofia: There are plenty of differences. I transferred to St. Agnes because I want a great education and community. I felt like I wasn't getting that at my old school. Aside from one amazing instructor, I didn’t feel connected with my teachers or classes. The largest difference is the organization. St. Agnes really has their stuff together!
Catherine: What is your favorite thing about St. Agnes so far?
Sofia: My favorite thing is that there is great communication between students and teachers. I like that I am forming a relationship with the faculty that teaches me. It's also great to be surrounded by strong minded individuals, and I am loving my new friendships.
Catherine: What are you most excited about for the upcoming school year?
Sofia: I am looking forward to the opportunities that are offered here. I have an amazing year in chorus ahead of me, spring musical, joining a few school clubs, beginning my service requirements (possibly traveling while doing so). Outside of school, I am hoping to begin beekeeping and will be preparing for an important audition. And of course, having good times with friends.
