The SHOCK Hip-Hop Dance Crew performed at St. Agnes Academy's winter pep rally.
Here at St. Agnes Academy, our annual Winter Pep Rally celebrates the varsity sports teams, clubs and band as well as orchestra members and all of their accomplishments. But the main source of entertainment throughout the rally are the dance teams.
The SHOCK Hip-Hop Dance Crew got the crowd excited at St. Agnes Academy's winter pep rally.
There are three different dance teams at St. Agnes: Tiger Girls, Remix and SHOCK, the hip hop dance team. SHOCK is the dance team that gets the crowd the most excited. All eight SHOCK members walked out demanding our attention in their black MC Hammer pants, metallic gold jackets and black and gold hats.

Evangeline Carson, a member of the team, recalls being “so nervous” since it was their first performance of the year, but of course no one could tell. As they accentuated the music at every drop of the beat with their effortless dance moves, students, teachers and even parents watched the performance with an enormous smile on their faces, cheering on their favorites who were out there dancing on the court.

Looking at each dancer and their ever-changing facial expressions added more energy to their performance as well as the room. When asked why SHOCK was created, Evangeline, one of the co-founders of the team, felt that because Tiger Girls wasn’t strong in hip-hop dance, “why not start an elite team.” So she did.
Along with Class of 2015 alumnae Nneka Anozie and others, they collaborated with head dance director, Julie Chilton, to create this cutting-edge hip hop dance team. Even though this was the last Winter Pep Rally for seniors on the team such as Evangeline herself, Kendall Hollingsworth and Learyn Jackson said they are all hopeful for the future of the SHOCK hip-hop dance team.
Carson envisions SHOCK “growing larger in size and winning Nationals.” This year is the first year that they are competing in Nationals and she “doesn’t want it to stop.”
