Grow with it
West University Elementary moms, including (pictured, from left) Heidi Krothe and Kristen Berger, are heading up the school’s Recipe for Success Foundation chapter. RFS was started in 2005 by Gracie and Bob Cavnar to help fight childhood obesity and provide healthier diets for kids. West University Elementary teaches the Seed-to-Plate curriculum that helps connects the produce in gardens to the food on kids’ plates. In the Garden Club at WUES, students learn how to grow organic herbs and vegetables. When available, on Fridays, produce is sold at the Garden Stall. The garden is maintained by parent volunteers and open to classes through teacher- and parent-led lessons.
