Publisher's Note - April 2016
The Buzz, thanks to our name, has received countless bee-related gifts over the past 14 years. Coffee mugs, stuffed animals, piggy banks, honey, note pads, picture frames and more. If it has a bee on it, we have it. And it always make us smile. This month, however, we discovered the real insect behind our namesake. In The Bees Knees by Jennifer Oakley, we learned that beekeeping is an increasingly popular and serious hobby for many Buzz-area residents. And it’s important for the planet too. As resident Karen Garcia puts it, “If you don’t have bees, you don’t have fruit. Everything we eat is dependent on the bees.” The photo shoots for the story went without incident until the very end, when one bee took a special liking to me. Or dislike. I was stung twice in the face and once on the hand, and I quickly found out I’m allergic to bee stings. However, after an emergency visit to The Allergy Clinic, where I received a steroid shot and prednisone pack, life is sweet again. [email protected]
