Young Entrepreneur Mixes Birthday with Business
Park Kuykendall turned 8 last week while he was on vacation with his family. But he didn’t spend his vacation day in Rockport sleeping in. He meant business.
One of his “wish list” activities was to open a lemonade stand during his family vacation. He decided he wanted to start saving for college (and maybe a toy or two). So he worked with his dad, Cliff, to make the lemonade, set up the stand and make the poster. In just 50 minutes, he made $48. He had a wonderful time and let everyone passing by know that it was his birthday – which helped with the tips.
Park, a rising second grader at Bunker Hill Elementary School, and his dad have been working on his personal savings account since he was 5. He receives a weekly allowance and has to write down any purchases he makes or gifts he acquires.
“We are working on teaching him that he has to work for things he wants,” said his mom, Amy.
Happy belated birthday, Park, and good luck in all of your future entrepreneurial ventures.
