The Beginning of (Almost) The End
This past summer was a whirlwind not only for me, but for so many of my classmates. Some traveled to other countries, while some stayed right here in Texas and still had the same amount of fun. The stress of high school in general can sometime take you away from your passions and everything that isn’t homework. So summer was the perfect time for us St. Agnes girls to get back to our favorite activities and pastimes.
Cristen Harrison, junior, said her most favorite activity to do over the summer was running summer track. Harrison also ran on the 2015-16 St. Agnes Track and Field team, with her record breaking and setting 4x400 and 4x200 meter relay. Taylor Crawford, also a current junior, said that her favorite activity over the summer was seeing a Broadway show. While my favorite part of this past summer was studying abroad in the great cities of London and Paris. I met so many amazingly talented individuals, not only from all across the country but all across the world.
Even though summer is mainly about soaking up the sun at every moment, sleeping in late, binge watching Netflix, laughing with your friends and everything in between, this past summer was also when the class of 2016 was bound to leave for their freshmen year of college. A lot of lowerclassmen make friends pretty easy with those in the upper classes, because they become some sort of mentor while they’re starting off in the world that is St. Agnes Academy. Needless to say, there were some tearful goodbyes.
Alumna Kendall Hollingsworth commented that the saddest part of leaving for college was “leaving what [she] was comfortable with…as well as being 22 hours away from what [she] knew was home”. There were some emotional goodbyes when she left but she and the rest of her class will be back before we all know it.
Now the summer is over, and we are almost back in the swing of things in this new school year. There are so many things to look forward to in this upcoming semester and entire year. Like inducting the class of 2020 into this crazy amazing place of St. Agnes through Big Sis/Little Sis Week, more commonly known as Fish Week. Myself and everyone else who have been through it before are so excited to see what this new class of seniors do to make the fish feel welcome.
