Out with the Old: Kinkaid Makes Big Changes
New school years are exciting for everyone at all schools. New teachers arrive, students fill the halls and silent cafeterias are a thing of the past. Starting the year can be stressful and tricky for anyone in all grades, and sadly freshmen, it doesn’t get easier. While students everywhere have to juggle with finding their classes and making new friends, students at Kinkaid were faced with many other new experiences. In just four months, Kinkaid has doubled the school’s property, built a new parking garage, erected a new (and beautiful) Dining and Learning Center, and welcomed a new Upper School head, Mr. Peter Behr.
While the new Dining and Learning center was being built, students were forced to eat lunch in the lobby of the Brown Auditorium, but the new addition was definitely worth the wait.
“I love the new cafeteria. It doesn’t even feel like school, it feels like I’m at Whole Foods with all the new options,” says Ashley Pakzaban, a senior at Kinkaid. The new Dining Center includes a salad bar, pizza station, home-made bread for sandwiches, barista counter, and countless other options for any kind of food you’re craving that day. Just up the stairs in the Dining Center is a new area filled with classrooms and workshop spaces for middle school classes like robotics.
The new parking garage is everything the students could have asked for. Sophomores no longer have to park off campus and take a shuttle back and forth, and for the class of 2017, the garage couldn’t have come any sooner. With the construction being over, all licensed students are able to park in the garage without hassle, and traffic runs smoother day by day. The final addition to Kinkaid this year is our new Upper School head, Mr. Behr. In the first week of school Mr. Behr has already made a great impression toward the students and faculty at Kinkaid. He has connected greatly with the senior class and is fitting perfectly into our community.
With all the new changes to Kinkaid, it could be tough for students to get situated at the beginning of the year, but teachers, upperclassman, and other role models have made this transition easier than expected. If you’re ever on Kinkaid grounds, be sure to check out the new Dining and Learning center, garage and give our new Upper School head a warm Kinkaid welcome.
