An honor for Your Honor
Harris County Commissioner Jack Cagle honored Judge Bonnie Hellums by naming a pocket park after her. The park is at the corner of Long Point and Campbell in Spring Branch. Bonnie recently retired after serving as judge of the 247th District Court since 1995. She started the Family Intervention Court and the Infant Toddler Court and was dean of students at Rice University for 15 years. Cagle was one of her students back then, and they have kept up a friendship all these years. Husband Carel Stith was applauding in the crowd while daughter Gretchen Ferreira, who lives in Oregon, and son Josh Hellums, in Tennessee, were proud of Mom from afar.
